Recent research reveals that AI can indeed make individual writers more creative, but there's a catch. While AI-generated ideas helped writers produce stories that were both novel and useful, this boost in creativity came at a cost.

New research found that stories written with AI assistance became more similar to each other, reducing overall creativity within the group. This paradox presents a classic social dilemma: AI can enhance personal creativity but may stifle creative diversity on a larger scale.

Critics argue that creativity can't be quantified, and using AI risks perpetuating clichés. Annalee Newitz points out that AI's reliance on common tropes is already impacting the sci-fi community, with some publications overwhelmed by AI-generated submissions.

As AI continues to influence creative fields, we must ask: Are we sacrificing originality for efficiency, and at what cost?
