### My latest article:

When most people think of a cryptocurrency, the first thing to come to mind is probably Bitcoin. However, Bitcoin is just one of many. At the moment, there are 1275 cryptocurrencies, with a total market cap of over $200 billion, each of which offers different values and benefits. The current cryptocurrency marketplace has been likened to a 'Wild West', with massive daily fluctuations. It is still in the infancy stage and there is a lot more to cryptocurrencies than just Bitcoin. ### **Three Useful Nuggets of Information**

*My weekly tips from around the web to get you thinking.*

### 1\. Bitcoin's digital cousin had a rough weekend.

Last weekend, Bitcoin experienced a remarkably volatile weekend. It lost $50 billion in value but recovered. Bitcoin's digital cousin - Bitcoin Cash, however, rose from $900 to $2800 within 24 hours, before dropping back to $1250\. ([**Bloomberg**](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-11-13/bitcoin-cash-the-digital-cousin-disrupting-cryptocurrencies?ref=thedigitalspeaker.com))

### 2\. Do you think Bitcoin is expensive? Think again.

Bitcoin currently fluctuates around $6000\. Although this seems very expensive, in Zimbabwe, it hit a record of nearly $14.000\. The reason? People turn to the coin as protection from the onset of hyperinflation and financial implosion. ### 3\. Have you already been crypto-scammed?

With any growing market and opportunities come illegal activities. The same goes for Bitcoin. There is a new type of financial scam in town, involving Bitcoin, which is rapidly spreading across social networks.
