The f(x) = e^x | sentient AI and the open metaverse

Good Day! This is my weekly newsletter, with a dose of insights into the future. The topic of this newsletter is the exponential times we live in, hence the title of f(x) = e^x, which is the (natural) exponential function.

You can visit The Digital Speaker to book me as a keynote speaker for your next event or to hire me as a future tech coach for your CEO. I have also published my trend predictions for 2022, and I am giving away10 free hard copies of my new book: Step into the Metaverse!

6 Characteristics of an Open Metaverse

My latest article:

An open metaverse is all about value creation and value exchange. An immersive open internet will enable humans to interact with one another and ultimately control how they organise their lives in the metaverse.

In the metaverse, you can be who you want to be, create what you want, where you want, for whom you want, and how you want. This complete freedom for creators will undoubtedly lead to some fascinating experiences, but for the open metaverse to work, six characteristics should be considered when building for the metaverse.

Three Useful Nuggets of Information

My weekly tips from around the web to get you thinking.

1. 'Is this AI sentient?' is the wrong question.

Last week, there was a lot of buzz around the language model LaMDa created by Google. The Google engineer Blake Lemoine caused a lot of uproar with his claim that the AI was sentient. The claim was quickly dismissed by Google and the world's leading AI researchers, but the question of whether LaMDa is sentient is the wrong question. The bigger problem is what happens when we act as if AIs are conscious. (Wired)

2. Do you already have a digital twin? Soon you will.

As you might know, I developed my first digital twin two years ago, when my avatar would cover the digital world from inside the digital void. I am currently building a MetaHuman - an exact digital replica of me - for season two of my podcast. However, within a few years, having a digital twin might be as normal as having a smartphone, and it could bring many benefits. (BBC)

3. Google is no longer what it used to be. 🔎

Over the years, the most popular search engine on earth has changed a lot, and the increased focus on ads is making people angry and discussing whether Google the search engine is dying. (The Atlantic)

Reviews: Step into the Metaverse

The above article is an abstract of my new book, Step into the Metaverse. It was published last month, and if you have read the book, I would like to ask if you would like to leave a review on Amazon.

The book is meant as a blueprint for an open metaverse; to achieve that, as many people as possible need to read it. Therefore, reviews are essential, and your help would be much appreciated. You can click here to leave a review on Amazon (login required). Thanks!
