Meta’s $70 Billion Metaverse Blunder—What Went Wrong?

If $70 billion buys you this, what does failure look like? Meta’s latest Horizon Worlds ad was so bad, they deleted it, but not before the internet had a field day.

Meta’s flagship metaverse project, Horizon Worlds, has cost the company billions, yet its latest advertisement showcased a lifeless VR world with awkward avatars, bizarre animations, and painful dialogue.

Even Meta’s own CTO admitted that the platform must “break out” to justify its existence, but with PS2-era graphics and no clear audience, it’s hard to see how.

Meanwhile, Meta is shifting focus to AI, suggesting even they know this virtual dream is fading. While it is good that Meta cannot get the metaverse to work, spatial intelligence will bring us a true phygital world in the coming years.
