Is AI Driving Us Toward a 3-Day Workweek or Economic Dystopia?

If your job involves spreadsheets or selling crops, AI might be coming for itโand maybe that's a good thing.
Vinod Khosla, the famed Silicon Valley billionaire and cofounder of Sun Microsystems, boldly predicts that AI will handle 80% of work in 80% of all jobs โ doctors, engineers, farmworkers, and even investment bankers aren't immune. But is this future dystopian or liberating?
Khosla suggests AI could lead to mass unemployment (my prediction is 1 billion jobs destroyed by 2030) and concentrated wealth at the top unless governments intervene with policies like Universal Basic Income (UBI).
Yet, there's hope according to Khosla. With proper management, this shift could usher in a three-day workweek, where humans pursue passions while robots handle the grunt work. Khosla envisions a future where repetitive, soul-crushing tasks are eliminated, and society thrives on meaningful pursuits.
But can policymakers keep up with AI's pace to ensure equitable outcomes? The question remains: will AI make us happier or widen the wealth gap further? Are we prepared to manage this transition responsibly, or are we heading toward a dystopia?
