Can a robot really outdo a human on the factory floor? BMW thinks so and believes Figure 02 is the perfect candidate, until a better humanoid arrives.
BMW has introduced Figure 02, a humanoid robot, to its Spartanburg, South Carolina, factory. Developed by Figure AI, this new robot boasts 16 degrees of freedom in its hands and human-equivalent strength, making it capable of performing complex tasks autonomously.
The robot was tested on assembling chassis parts, a job requiring significant dexterity and which can be ergonomically challenging for humans. Despite the promising results, BMW hasn't set a timeline for fully integrating humanoid robots into its production lines.
