Taking Back Control: How to Keep AI From Learning From You

In an era where AI systems are devouring online data, everything you've ever posted could be training the next chatbot or image generator โ often without your consent.
Big tech firms, from Google to Meta, have long scraped the web to train generative AI, but now, with rising privacy concerns and lawsuits, some companies are offering opt-out options.
While this is a step in the right direction, itโs often hidden, complicated, and doesnโt remove data already captured. Tools like Adobe, Grammarly, and Figma allow users to exclude their content from future AI training, but others like Meta and LinkedIn still leave you automatically opted in.
Hereโs what you should know:
- Companies have already scraped much of your data.
- Opt-out options are often buried deep in settings.
- AI training on your data wonโt stop unless you actively opt out.
Opting out of AI training feels like a small victory, but the bigger question is: Should we have to fight for control over our own data in the first place?
