The Thinking Machine: When AI Gets Its Own Bureaucracy
If your AI has a better filing system than your CFO, it’s time to ask who’s really running the company, and whether the AI is about to schedule your replacement.
Imagine an AI that doesn’t just predict words but reflects on its own beliefs, mistakes, and bureaucracies. This “thinking machine” concept proposes a memory-first AI that catalogs errors, reasons through beliefs with probabilities, and runs experiments on multiple world models, all to improve itself continuously.
It’s less Jarvis, more obsessive librarian with performance anxiety. By scaffolding learning like a cognitive bureaucracy, it might achieve deeper alignment with human goals, or entangle itself in endless red tape.
As AI begins to think about how it thinks, we must consider whether future intelligence will outpace our ability to guide it. Will smart systems be tools—or unaccountable administrators?
