The f(x) = e^x | The Challenge of AI Ethics
đŸ‘‹ Hi, I am Mark. I am a strategic futurist and innovation keynote speaker. I advise governments and enterprises on emerging technologies such as AI or the metaverse. My subscribers receive a free weekly newsletter on cutting-edge technology.

Good Day! This is my weekly newsletter, with a dose of insights into the future. The topic of this newsletter is the exponential times we live in, hence the title of f(x) = e^x, which is the (natural) exponential function.

Recently, I launched my new concept The Digital Speaker and you can now book me as an avatar or hologram. Also, my tech trend prediction for 2021 is out, read it here!

Between Two Bots: EP02 Maria Axenta - Responsible AI Lead - PWC Frontier Lab

My latest podcast:

Last week, Dan Turchin and I launched a new podcast: Between Two Bots. This is the podcast where we discuss the future of humanity, society, and government as seen through the lens of your data, your privacy and the ethics surrounding AI. This is a conversation we need to be having now. We want you to be on the right side of innovation. Listen each week and learn from experts on the frontlines defining how will work and live alongside machines.

This episode's guest is Maria Axente, Responsible AI & AI for Good Lead at PwC UK. She is an award-winning globally recognised AI ethics expert, one of the 100 Plus brilliant women in AI and ethics in 2019 and 2020. And she advises many organisations like the World Economic Forum, UNICEF, AI for children, and UK Government.

We discussed topics such as the responsibility of Big Tech to protect our data, what can go wrong when consumer data is breached, and technological advances are required before we are ready as a global society to have AI embedded in more aspects of our lives? You can check out the podcast here or on Amazon, or you can watch the episode on YouTube or Vimeo.

Three Useful Nuggets of Information

My weekly tips from around the web to get you thinking.

1. Can you torrent two blockchains worth of NFTs?

The NFT Bay asks if you would steal all the JPEGs currently sold as NFTs on the Ethereum and Solana blockchain. With a few clicks, you too can have just under 20TB of JPEGs on your computer. (The Verge)

2. Are some decisions too hard for AI?

The self-driving trolley problem is a real problem that AI designers need to solve before releasing self-driving cars into the wild, but it is certainly not the only ethical challenge. How will future AI systems make the most ethical choices for all of us? (The Conversation)

3. Think NFTs are a fad? Think again.

Morgan Stanley just revealed that NFTs could account for 10% of the luxury market by 2030, creating a global market opportunity of $300 billion, up from a few billion dollars today.  (CoinDesk)

Step into the Metaverse

I have recently signed my fourth book deal, this time with Wiley after they asked me to write the book on the metaverse. I am very excited about this opportunity to go down the rabbit hole of the next version of the internet. Currently, I am doing my research and interviewing stakeholders within the metaverse space, so if you know someone worth talking to, please let me know by replying to this email. The book will become available in Q2 2022.
