The f(x) = e^x | Understanding the Elements of Artificial Intelligence
👋 Hi, I am Mark. I am a strategic futurist and innovation keynote speaker. I advise governments and enterprises on emerging technologies such as AI or the metaverse. My subscribers receive a free weekly newsletter on cutting-edge technology.

Good Day! This is my weekly newsletter, with a dose of insights into the future. The topic of this newsletter is the exponential times we live in, hence the title of f(x) = e^x, which is the (natural) exponential function.

Recently, I launched my new concept The Digital Speaker and you can now book me as an avatar or hologram. Also, my tech trend prediction for 2021 is out, read it here!

Understanding the Elements of Artificial Intelligence

My latest article:

Artificial Intelligence is here to stay. The development of AI is speeding up on a daily basis. Only recently, Google’s DeepMind created the AI AlphaStar that secured a decisive victory against two grandmaster players of the game of StarCraft II. However, what is artificial intelligence and how do concepts such as neural networks or deep learning work? Most people have a very narrow understanding of what AI is, and what not, and what AI can do, and cannot do. They have not heard about concepts such as deep learning, neural networks or reinforcement learning, while a basic understanding of AI can help in thinking how AI could improve your life and work. Therefore, the Finnish government has released a free course to understand the basics of AI: Elements of AI.

Three Useful Nuggets of Information

My weekly tips from around the web to get you thinking.

1. The first security token exchange is live.

Last week, I wrote about the rise of security tokens. One of the main components missing is a secondary market where security tokens can be exchanged. This week, tZERO launched, a company by Patrick Byrne - who happened to write the preface of our book blockchain. (CoinDesk)

2. London Gatwick is hiring robot valets.

Gatwick airport is starting a three-month trial of robots that will park the cars of travellers. It will do so by lifting the front of the vehicle like a forklift truck. Since robots do not have to get in and out of a car, Gatwick thinks it can park almost 50% more cars in the same space. (CNN)

3. Can AI diagnose mental illness?

A team of scientists are testing to see if they can develop an AI that can make correct diagnoses for mental health disorders and even find the underlying physical causes. If it will work, remains to be seen. (The Verge)
