The f(x) = e^x | 5 Technology Trends for 2022
👋 Hi, I am Mark. I am a strategic futurist and innovation keynote speaker. I advise governments and enterprises on emerging technologies such as AI or the metaverse. My subscribers receive a free weekly newsletter on cutting-edge technology.

Good Day! This is my weekly newsletter, with a dose of insights into the future. The topic of this newsletter is the exponential times we live in, hence the title of f(x) = e^x, which is the (natural) exponential function.

Recently, I launched my new concept The Digital Speaker and you can now book me as an avatar or hologram. And my new website has launched! I am curious to hear your thoughts.!

The Top 5 Technology Trends for 2022: The Year of Decentralisation

My latest article:

2022 is nearly here, so it is time to look ahead and see what the next year has in store for us regarding the technology trends we should take into consideration. The world currently experiences change from all angles. We see rapid technological change, as well as economic, social and environmental change disrupting societies.

If organisations want to remain relevant, they must embrace digital technologies. Therefore, here are the five technologies that I think will have the most impact on organisations and societies in 2022. Next year, we will experience the dawn of the metaverse, and hopefully, we will be able to fix the issues of Web 2.0 and start building a decentralised, user-controlled metaverse. NFTs will play a key role in this upcoming metaverse. They will open many new business and financial models, governed by smart contracts instead of financial institutions.

With work becoming more decentralised and geographically distributed, and trustless systems becoming more important, 2022 will be the Year of Decentralisation. Of course, not all systems can be decentralised. The Cambrian Explosion of AI will, even more, require a Zero Trust Architecture as cybercriminals also have access to ever-more sophisticated AI.

To remain relevant in 2022, organisations should foster an adaptive and flexible culture where people can explore and experiment with new technologies and subsequently share their learnings internally. Above all, they should remain up to date on the latest developments in technology. So, don’t miss the boat. Embrace these five technology trends and be prepared for the Year of Decentralisation.

Three Useful Nuggets of Information

My weekly tips from around the web to get you thinking.

1. A supercomputer in the cloud? Yes, please!

Supercomputers are notoriously expensive to build and, therefore, only accessible to a few countries and research organisations. But hook one up to the cloud, and suddenly, it is making complex simulations easier and more accessible than ever.  (HBR)

2. Will AI save the day again?

Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania used AI to scour the human proteome for antimicrobial molecules and found thousands, plus a surprise about how animals evolved to fight infections. It may even have found superbug-killing potential in our own proteins. (Wired)

3. NFTs are much more than expensive JPEGs.

NFTs and digital art are instigating a shift in the arts from a culture of consumption to one of sharing and owning. And it is just the beginning. (Decrypt)
