AI in Classrooms: Time Saver or Teacher Replacement?

With tools like Magic School's quiz generator and Khan Academy’s Khanmigo promising to reduce the heavy workload of grading and lesson planning, AI is positioned as the solution to endless administrative tasks.
However, not all teachers are convinced. Many see lesson planning and grading as core elements of their profession — tasks requiring the human touch that AI can’t replicate. While McKinsey suggests AI could save 13 hours a week for teachers, skepticism persists about its ability to handle creative tasks like feedback on essays.
As more education departments embrace AI, teachers face a critical question: Will AI help them better focus on teaching, or are we risking the dehumanization of education?
