Post-Quantum Encryption: Securing the Future
Can post-quantum encryption save us from a quantum apocalypse, or are we encrypting answers to questions no one’s asked yet? The annual Cloudflare report has some interesting statistics.
In 2024, post-quantum encryption gained traction, with 13% of TLS 1.3 traffic adopting it globally, reflecting its rising importance in safeguarding data from quantum-era threats.
Google Chrome’s default activation in April spurred rapid adoption, followed by Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari testing. Designed to protect against future quantum decryption (the Big Crunch that I foresee happening next yaer), these cryptographic methods hinge on browser compatibility and widespread implementation.
Of course, browser encryption is only one part - all enterprise and public organizations will need to work hard and invest in integrating quantum-resistant encryption, and there is no time to loose.
