Restoring Sight: The Breakthrough Eye Implant That Could Change Lives

Science Corporation's new retinal implant, the Prima, is offering a glimpse of restored vision to people with advanced macular degeneration (AMD). Unlike previous technologies, the Prima allows legally blind individuals to see shapes, patterns, and even read small text after an 80-minute surgery.
While it’s not perfect — users see in a yellowish tint and rely on zoom features — it marks a leap forward in retinal implants. In the clinical trial, 32 participants improved their eyesight to an average of 20/160, enabling them to recognize faces, play cards, and read, despite initial skepticism about such technologies.
Max Hodak, CEO of Science and former Neuralink president, hailed the device’s ability to mimic natural vision and its potential to aid millions of AMD sufferers worldwide.
